FABULOUS!

I really enjoyed listening to this retelling of John Bunyan's beautiful allegory. The tone and pacing of the reading were very good. I started it with some trepidation as it had been described as a retelling (with some of the text omitted and the language updated) to appeal to the modern reader. If you like the original, I think you'll discover pleasantly that the integrity and substance of the story have not been compromised with this version. Kudos to all involved! (Posted on 12/10/11)

Very entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, particularly because of the excellent job Paul Michael did in reading it. The different voices he gave to each character were delightful, and the storyline flowed pleasantly.
The abridgment flowed well and conserved most of Bunyan's original writing style while leaving out the in-depth treatment on spiritual truths. For the Christian reader, this leaves you wanting more and stimulates desire to turn to the original book (which I own but have not yet read). For the non-Christian, the spiritual analogies still come through clearly enough to gain profitable insights into the Christian life. Overall a winner! (Posted on 12/28/10)Overall -

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this timeless classic again. Even more this time being read by Paul Micheal. I loved his accent as he read the old English that would not have the same effect read by myself alone. Also his ability to carry the voices of multiple characters during the same scene was dynamic. The story causes me to do a self examination through each scene, drawing me closer to the Savior and reinforcing our need for his church. I'm sure I will listen to this over and over again. I really enjoyed listening to this book and the reader did an excellent job! Anyone who has experience in walking with the Lord will have a part of this book that they can relate to.
I'd be very interested in knowing what the unabridged version is like because I would like to have gotten to know the various characters and temptations in greater depth so as to move beyond being entertained by the book to learning how to recognize temptations, etc. quickly and how they steer the Christian off of the right road. I'm a fool. I did not realize that his name changed in the process of his journey (the previous version I'd listened to had his name as Christian from the start). My last comment is wrong. I've listened ahead and they indeed do refer to him as "Christian".
Man I wish there was a delete comment button! (Posted on 3/30/10)Overall -

I was pleased at such a well written story was narrated so eloquently until the name of the main character was changed from "Christian" to "Graceless".
If they are unwilling to say the word Christian, I can only imagine how they would handle his encounter with the cross where his burden falls off.
I could not continue listening to it and will find a less post-modern version. (Posted on 3/29/10)Overall
